Who We Are

Lubbock Interfaith Association (LIA) is composed of liaisons and individuals
from 19 groups representing nine religions, traditions, and perspectives:
Hindu, Judaism, Atheism, Buddhism, Christianity (Roman Catholic and Protestant),
Islam, Paganism, Unitarian Universalist, and Bahá’í Faith.

What We Do And Why

From its inception in 2005, the mission of LIA has been to
provide experiential opportunities to learn and worship together,
with complete
reverence and respect for one another’s
religions, traditions, and perspectives.
Since 2006 LIA participants have attended more than 90 worship services and events, with the continuing goal to learn more, understand more, and appreciate more about that which distinguishes and unites us in our common human heritage.

In addition, since 2008 LIA has held more than 15 Interfaith Celebrations and Interfaith Forums.  These annual events are designed to further our understanding of unity within and among the traditions, encouraging greater peace for our community.

As part of broader interfaith initiatives, LIA has been instrumental in both community and regional events.  In 2011 LIA co-coordinated Hope and Harmony in the Interfaith Community, a city-wide memorial service for the 10th Anniversary of 9/11.  And in 2014 LIA began a new initiative, the Regional Interfaith Conference, designed to serve the 70+ counties in the west Texas region.  More than 100 persons registered for each of the first three Conferences, with participants representing 18 communities from 3 states.

In addition to the planned events, LIA has provided leadership in responding to religious intolerance at the local and global levels with public events of support:

February 2016
Presentation of Support, Islamic Center of the South Plains in Lubbock

March 2016
Voices from Syria, co-hosted with Second Baptist Church of Lubbock to benefit Syrian residents

September 2016
